Did you know that carpets are known repositories for chemicals in indoor environments, including homes, offices and schools?
According to Science blog, researchers tested potentially hazardous volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, in different types of carpets and under different conditions. They found that a chemical's makeup largely determines how long it lingers in carpets. Some experts have stated, the more dense your carpets, the longer it will take for chemical components to evaporate.
The question for most consumers is, "what can we do to slow or prevent toxic chemical emissions from our carpets?" By purchasing organic carpet cleaning chemicals. Organic carpet cleaners are generally dry cleaners that are much less harmful on both the human body and the environment, than traditional carpet cleaners. You should also look for those that have a pH balance that is gentle on the environment. If you want your carpets to be professionally cleaned, you should know that there are professional organic carpet cleaners who specialize in the healthful cleansing of even the dirtiest carpets. Here Are A Few Organic Carpet Cleaners

How Often Do You Clean Your Bathroom?
Some would ask, is this a trick question? Or more importantly, is there a right or wrong answer to this question? I probably would ask the second question myself, because truthfully, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this question. The frequency at which people clean their bathrooms depends on the number of individuals within the household. I researched this topic thoroughly, and relied on a few polls to help me dissect and concluded to a general consensus on this particular topic.
I referred to 2 separate polls, PollDaddy.com's and Home and Gardens at Cafemom.com. Each of these polls provided astonishing results.
According to PollDaddy.com, 38% of people say they clean their bathrooms once a month.
This is pretty shocking because the average number of persons per household is about 3 people. The average waste per person is 4.4 pounds per week, that's 52.8 pounds of waste that has accumulated in 1 month. Let's say only 18 pounds of that waste is accumulated in the bathroom, therefore cleaning a bathroom only once a month with 3 people in a household means at the end of the month, your bathroom is pretty filthy. I wouldn't even clean my bathroom once a month maybe once every 2 weeks.
According to CafeMom.com, 34% of people say they clean their bathrooms once a week.
Personally, I believe this is an answer people know you expect to hear from them. It's adequate, and makes them appear to be more sanitary than most. However, I don't think a majority of people clean their bathrooms once a week. Who has the time, really? I barely have the time to wash regularly, for the record, I don't even have kids.
So what's the real answer here? There isn't one. I say just clean your bathrooms when its dirty, and you'll be considered sanitary, at least to me. (Read more inside ..)

The Quick Fix Guide To Cleaning During A Busy Work Week
Most Americans don't have the time in the day or week, for that matter, to clean properly. We let the mess pile up, until the weekend, when all we really want to do is relax, to attempt to clean our homes properly. As dust particles, and bacteria is living in our homes accumulate, we create a hazardous environment to live in. So in the meantime, how can we keep the mess to a limit that will help make cleaning on the weekend less intrusive? What's the quick fix guide to cleaning during a busy work week?
Some people are just naturally good at keeping their rooms or homes tidy, but for the millions of people in the world, who are like me, that's not the case. What can we do to clean our room quick and efficiently? There are certain areas in your home you should keep clean all the time, and I will go over those areas, so when the weekend comes, cleaning will be a breeze! Start by accessing the areas in your home you reside the most. Is it your bedroom, your living room, or do you have a family room? Whatever place it is, this is the problem area you want to focus on during the week. In my case, its my bedroom. My bedroom is a cyclone during the work week, I'm in and out quickly with little time during the week to clean. I came up with a 3 step process, so I wouldn't come home to a messy bedroom.
Step 1: Keep an empty clothes hamper - I pull out many outfits to wear in the morning, most of them I don't end up wearing at all, but I used to leave them on the floor and run out of the house. Then I got tired of coming home to a room I couldn't relax in after a hard days of work. For those of you like me, I now find it important to keep a empty hamper to put clean clothes in that I pull out to wear, and don't wear during the week. This keeps my room from looking like a tornado hit it.
Step 2: Keep a spray bottle of disinfectant - But what about dust and bacteria? This is the most important problem area in homes during busy work weeks without proper cleaning. I always keep a spray bottle of disinfectant to wipe down my dressers, television, and mirrors in my room. I do this every night before I go to bed. This will keep hazardous bacteria, and dust from accumulating in my room. Doing these simple steps doesn't mean that I have a clean room, it just makes the cleaning I'll do on the weekend much more easier.
Step 3: Vacuum or sweep at night - I hate dirty floors. Sometimes I pick up little pieces of paper or lint off the floor whenever I see it. I know its a bit anal but its important to have clean floors, especially if you have a big family going in and out of the house. It's important to vacuum your carpet every night. This will prevent more dirty from accumulating in your home.
If you apply these steps to any room in your home that accumulates the most mess, you'll find that cleaning on the weekend will be a lot less stressful and time consuming. (Read more inside ..)

Consumer Spending : Household Cleaning Products
Packaged Facts forecasts the U.S. market for household cleaning products to grow two percent through 2012 reaching $8.1 billion. That's actually a decrease in consumer spending from 2008, however, its still an overall growth in household cleaning products used in the U.S.. In their article on, "Household Cleaning Products in the U.S.," they break down specific reasons why spending has decreased and the household cleaning products market defined in six broad categories. I agree with some of their findings, however, I'll add a bit of my own clarity to the mix, in addition, I will lump the commercial cleaning industry for a broader analysis.
Reason To Purchase Household Cleaning Products/Commercial Cleaning Products
According to Packaged Facts, consumers are taking a more conscientious approach in the purchase of cleaning products. It's all about what's best for the environment. I agree with this reasoning, even the EPA has put more emphasis on recommending certain household cleaning products that will do less harm to the environment and even focusing on the active ingredient levels. However, this new eco-friendly mind frame has had an effect on the pockets of many consumers, perhaps forcing them to spend less on cleaning products throughout the year. Buying green products is amazing for the environment, however, retailers are hiking prices on those specialty products we should be purchasing to save the environment. According to Packaged Facts, they expect more consumers to make cleaning a lifestyle choice rather than simply a sanitary chore. I think the high costs of eco-friendly products can be directly related to this reason.
Packaged Facts also states that an accelerated growth of two-person households may cause an increase in spending on household cleaning products. I differ in opinion on this particular reason, and in actually I think it will have no effect on spending. In my opinion, a two-person household will only be a slight difference in cleaning within the home, however, the spending will probably be the same or slightly decreased due to the change in quantity. When you have 2 different households, that's 2 separate vacuums you have to purchase, two separate mops, two separate mop buckets, and so on. Now combining the households, all of those separate purchasing become 1 single purchase. Below are Packaged Facts categories of household cleaning products market.
The category forgotten on this list are cleaning supplies. That will make a vast difference in the over all consumer spending levels, and perhaps change the overall findings. One fact that will never change, consumers will always need cleaning products, and supplies to clean their homes, offices, institutions, and businesses. For more information on where to buy any of these products visit JaniLink, your #1 supplier of janitorial supplies equipment, floor machines, burnishers, and cleaning supplies.

How Much Do You Pay For Office Cleanings?
How Much Do You Pay For Office Cleanings?
They disinfect your office restrooms, they dust your computer screens and desks, they vacuum the floors you tramp in and out of every week, so how much are they getting paid to do this? More importantly, are they getting paid more than you?
Essentially they do all the things you wouldn't want to do if you had the time, or if your company paid you to do the same thing. From changing linens, watering plants, window washing, and interior cleaning of office kitchens, its an extensive cleaning everyday to keep your working environment void of dust, and bacterias that could cause sickness. More importantly from your boss's perspective, "a loss in production."
First you have to take into account a few attributes about the office; square footage, location, type of business, multiple locations, frequency of cleaning, any additional services or special attention areas. After all that is accounted for, the cleaning service has to take into account the amount of supplies needed to clean the office. Janitorial Supplies and Equipment are the most essential part of their service. You need a good supplier because you'll need replenishment of supplies very often. (For anyone in the Atlanta area interested in a good janitorial supplier, Janilink is a wonderful choice)
Costs vary considerably depending on how much you want done and how often, and pricing is not at all clear-cut. For small businesses it starts between $25 - $50 per visit and goes up depending on office size, the number of restrooms, and the type and amount of cleaning requested. A cleaning 1 or twice a week would be between $100 -$200 per month, while the cost for daily trash pickup and simple vacuuming at a typical small business could run $500 - $1500 or more a month.
For those extremely large offices the pay is determined by square footage. It could start between 10 cents - 75 cents per square foot. Most cleaning services charge separately for labor-intensive services such as floor buffing and window cleaning in difficult to reach areas with prices between 25 cents - 75 cents a square foot, deep carpet cleanings prices starting between $30 -$75 an hour, and cleaning microwaves or refrigerators prices starting between $25 -$50 per appliance. Generally the larger the office, the lower the cost per square foot. Nightly janitorial service for a 20,000-square-foot office in can start between 10 cents - 50 cents per square foot or $2,000 -$7,000 a month. Medical or health care facilities require specialized cleaning and are usually at the higher end of the price range and may be billed on an hourly basis rather than per square foot.
The point I'm trying to make is that cleaning services profit hugely from cleaning offices. Perhaps more than what you make per month. It's a recession proof industry that anyone can enter and do well in. So if you looking for that next business start-up, try a cleaning service, you'll break even in 1 month or less.
